Canada Day on July 1 celebrates the anniversary of Confederation in 1867 with fireworks, concerts and parades across the country. In Canada it's a public holiday, so schools, government offices and most businesses close.

When is it? Canada Day falls on the same date every year, July 1. The date itself never changes, but the day of the week does, and that decides whether you get a long weekend out of it. If it falls at the weekend you get a substitute day on the next free weekday, and the calendars here show that substitute day rather than the original.
