Veterans Day on November 11 honours all U.S. military veterans. It coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day in other countries, marking the end of World War I in 1918. In the United States it's a public holiday, so schools, government offices and most businesses close.

When is it? Veterans Day falls on the same date every year, November 11. The date itself never changes, but the day of the week does, and that decides whether you get a long weekend out of it. Land it on a Saturday and it's observed the Friday before; land it on a Sunday and it moves to the Monday after. Either way the day off survives.
